Beginning a Private School

1. Define your niche.
24 months before your private school opening: Define what type of school your local market needs. Ask teachers and parents for their position. In case you can afford this, you should employ a marketing company to conduct a survey.
When you define what type of school you are going to open, then think how many grades will open the school. The long-range plans can need a K-12 private school, but this makes sense to begin small and develop solidly. Get the main division established, you can join the upper grades.
2. Form a committee.
24 months: You should form a small committee comprising of talented supporters to start the preliminary work. Also, you can include parents with building, legal, financial and management experience. You need to ask for and obtain a commitment of financial support and time from every member. Such planning work will demand much energy and time. They can become the heart of your board of directors.
3. Incorporate.
18 months: You should file incorporation papers with the State’s Secretary. Your lawyer should be capable to organize this for you. Also, there are some costs linked with the filing, still he should contribute his legal service to your cause.
It is a necessary step in your long fund growth. People give money more readily to an ‘entity’ that a person. If you have decided to found your own private school, you will need to find the sources of raising money.
4. Develop your business plan.
18 months: It must be a blue print of the way your private school is going to fucntion during its first years. Be conservative in the projections.
